The YA-1 motorcycle is owned by Incolmotos Yamaha, after Hiroyuki Yanagi, President and CEO of Yamaha Motor, gifted it in 2014 to Dr. Francisco Sierra, founder of the assembly company in Colombia, in recognition of his management, achievements, and the positioning he had achieved for the brand in the country.
This motorcycle has also been known as the Red Dragonfly because, at a time when motorcycle design was dominated by an imposing all-black style, Yamaha decided to innovate with its first model in a striking chestnut-red color that won the admiration of motorcycle enthusiasts.
From its launch, the YA-1 immediately proved its high performance by winning the third Mount Fuji Hill Climb Race in July 1955, and later that same year, it swept the top three places in the ultralight category at the first Asama Highlands Race. In this way, Yamaha has demonstrated its high performance in various competitions since its beginnings.
